Slipped Disc & Disc Bulge Treatment

By Dr Heal Pain Cure Hospital

Slipped Disc and Disc Bulge Treatment – Dr Rakesh H J, MBBS, FID, DAPT CMDR, IFM (USA), Dr Heal Pain Cure Hospital, Bengaluru

Being told you have a disc bulge or a slipped disc can be worrying, especially if someone has already mentioned surgery. Here is what many people are not told: most disc problems settle without an operation, and a bulge on an MRI does not always mean it is the cause of your pain. At Dr Heal Pain Cure Hospital in HSR Layout and Banashankari, our pain specialists match your scan to your symptoms, find what is really causing the pain, and treat it without steroids or surgery.

Disc problems we treat without surgery

MRI reports use many different words for disc problems. They describe how far the disc has moved, but they do not tell you how much pain you will have or whether you need surgery. These are the problems we treat most often:

Why patients choose Dr Heal for disc problems

  • We treat you, not just the scan. Many people have disc bulges on MRI without any pain. We match your scan to your examination to make sure the disc is really the problem.
  • Surgery is the last resort. We start with treatments that help you avoid an operation, and if surgery is ever truly your best option, we tell you honestly.
  • Clear explanations. We take time to explain your MRI, your options and what to expect, so you can decide with confidence.
  • Everything under one roof. Imaging support, laboratory tests and a 24/7 pharmacy are on site. See our facilities.
  • Open day and night. Both branches are open 24 hours, seven days a week. Meet our doctors.

Our non-surgical disc bulge treatments

Most of the pain from a disc problem comes from inflammation around the nerve, not just the bulge itself. Calming that inflammation and protecting the disc while it settles is the aim. Your plan may include:

Guided rehabilitation

Specific movements can ease pressure on the disc and reduce leg or arm pain, followed by core strengthening to support your spine. Some gentle exercises can be started at home: see these exercises for sciatica relief.

Steroid-free regenerative injections

When a disc is pressing on a nerve and the pain is severe or slow to settle, our doctors may add an injection around the irritated nerve or disc. We use our own regenerative medicine prepared through Dr Heal Pharma, with no steroids, no painkillers and no antibiotics. It aims to support the body’s own repair around the disc and nerve, rather than only suppress inflammation for a while. Learn more about regenerative medicine. Been advised a steroid injection elsewhere? Read what to know before an epidural steroid injection or a selective nerve root block.

Functional medicine and clinical nutrition

Weight, blood sugar, diet, sleep and stress all affect inflammation and how well a disc heals. Our functional medicine and nutrition team looks at the whole picture and builds a plan around the food you already eat. If you rely on tablets every day, here is why painkillers are not the long-term answer. Living with diabetes? See why steroid-free care matters.

Posture, sitting and weight

Sitting for long hours, lifting badly and extra body weight all add load to the discs. We give practical advice for work, driving and home, along with diet support where it helps. Start with these daily habits for a healthy spine.

How your treatment works

  1. Call or book online. Call 07969288086 or book an appointment. Bring any MRI, X-ray or reports you have.
  2. A proper examination. Your doctor checks your spine, nerves, reflexes and strength, and compares them with your scan.
  3. Your MRI explained. We tell you in plain words what the scan shows and whether it explains your pain.
  4. Your treatment plan. You leave with a clear, non-surgical plan and know exactly what happens next.
  5. Follow-up until you are moving freely. We track your progress and adjust the plan as you improve.

Frequently asked questions

Can a slipped disc be treated without surgery?

In most cases, yes. Most people with a disc bulge or herniation improve with the right non-surgical care. At Dr Heal this means finding the real cause, steroid-free regenerative injections when needed, functional medicine and guided rehabilitation. Surgery is usually considered only for serious or worsening weakness, signs of severe nerve compression, or disabling pain that does not respond to proper treatment.

Will the bulge go back in?

Herniated disc material often shrinks over time as the body reabsorbs it. Even when a bulge stays on the scan, pain usually improves once the inflammation around the nerve settles. Feeling better matters more than how the MRI looks.

Do Dr Heal’s injections contain steroids?

No. When an injection is part of your plan, it is a steroid-free regenerative injection prepared through Dr Heal Pharma, with no steroids, painkillers or antibiotics. This also makes treatment easier to plan if you have diabetes or high blood pressure.

Do I need an MRI before I come?

No. If you already have one, bring it along. If you need one, your doctor will arrange it after examining you.

Is it safe to exercise with a disc bulge?

The right exercise helps, but some movements can make things worse in the early phase, such as heavy lifting, deep forward bending and twisting. That is why we guide your exercise programme step by step.

Can a disc bulge happen in the neck?

Yes. A cervical disc bulge can cause neck pain that spreads into the shoulder, arm or hand, sometimes with tingling. It is treated with the same non-surgical approach. See our neck pain treatment page.
